Bad Breath Halitosis
If you think you have bad breath or halitosis (halatosis and halotosis are common misspellings of halitosis), here are a few good ways to test your own breath at home.
1. Using a piece of cotton gauze, wipe the top surface of your tongue and smell the gauze. If the gauze smells bad, it's bad breath you have. A yellow-colored stain on the cotton likely indicates that you have an elevated sulfide production level, which is another sign of bad breath and halitosis.
.2. Lick the back of your hand. Let that air-dry by counting to ten and then smell. If you notice an odor, you have a bad breath disorder because the sulphur salts from your tongue have been transferred to your hand.
3. Run a piece of dental floss between your back molars and then smell the floss. If the floss smells, this may indicate halitosis and the level of odors others may detect.
